Happy 6th Talibon Foundation Day!

The 6th Foundation Day of Talibon was simply celebrated on April 21, a Friday, with a Thanksgiving Mass at 8:15 in the morning followed by a simultaneous flag raising event and then the Barangay Congress held at the CPG Multi-Purpose Center.

Under the Sangguniang Bayan Resolution No. 2012-4, the Foundation Day of Talibon is supposedly to fall on April 22 of each year, yet, because it falls on a Saturday this year, the officials decided to hold its celebration a day earlier, to ensure full attendance.

The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Enrico Cortes who asked for a “groupie” afterwards with the attending top officials of Talibon, barangay constituents and LGU employees.

The simultaneous raising of the flags - of the municipal flag and the 25 flags representing the 25 barangays of the town -  followed afterwards in front of the Municipal Hall.  Barangay Captains took charge of their poles, which line the plaza pathway, duly supported by the other barangay officials.  The LGU employees and the police force gathered in front of the main flagpole at the Hall.

Then everybody trooped over to the Cultural Center for the main event: the Barangay Congress.  Barangay Captains and their officials occupied designated tables.  A few tables were set aside for the VIPs, which included the Barangays’ partners for progress: the Educators and, of course, the Enumerators.  Within the Congress, before lunch was served, both the Mayor and the Vice-Mayor rendered their Executive and Legislative Reports, respectively.

The day ended after the awarding of deserving Barangays, Barangay Officials and individuals which happened after a sumptuous lunch.  The following were the achievers:

But that was not all.  To highlight the Foundation Day, different activities were held.  One was the weeklong Agri-Fair situated around the Municipal Plaza from April 17 to 20 which also included the “Pinaka” Contest, the selection of the “Best Booth”, Mud Crab and Catch-a-Pig Contests;  Tanod’s Day on the 18th, “FREE Haircut” at the Municipal Plaza on the 19th and a FREE Wedding at the Cathedral on the 20th of 83 couples; the biggest so far that the Local Civil Registrar have ever processed.

The designated day on the 21st was simply celebrated yet the weeklong celebration for the Foundation Day made the whole affair alive and memorable. (ellenmarieobuno)
