Origin of the Name Magsaysay

This place before was known “Buwakaw”, named after the big ball of fire that appear during night time, floating on air especially on rainy days. Mr. Mauro Reguya, a former US Army, discovered the place. But it was not until the year 1957 that the people organized among themselves and made a petition to transform the place to a barangay. President Magsaysay was the President of the Republic then and when the papers for approval were signed, the name was changed to Magsaysay, because the barangay was born on the death of the “Man of the Masses”, on a plane crash in Cebu, City, specifically in Mt. Manunggal.
