Origin of the Name Calituban
This word originates from a kind of seashell called “litob”, which were found on the white sands of the place when the first inhabitants came in the 18th century. The clam, “litob”, were so abundant during those days so that the first group of settlers sold these clams to the neighboring (islands) mainland because their daily catch were more than enough for their needs. From that day on, the island was named “Calituban”.
