Origin of the Name San Isidro
The early settlers of the place were mostly farmers. They planted coconuts, rice, corn, bananas, peanuts and other crops. Their harvest was bountiful. They didn’t have to work hard. The soil was fertile and loamy. Once planted, the rice seedlings were left by the farmers after the closure of the rice dikes. The farmers’ next visit to the rice fields is harvest time. Realizing God’s blessings through His Divine Providence, the early inhabitants agreed to have a devotion to San Isidro Labrador and chose him to be the barangay’s patron saint. The barrio folks bought the image somewhere in Tubigon, Bohol, where the first settlers brought it by sailboat. From that time on, they named the place San Isidro in honor of their patron saint. They held fiestas lavishly as their gesture of deep gratitude to God through the intercession of San Isidro Labrador.
