Origin of the Name Rizal
Once upon a time, a couple from Jetafe wanted to look for a greener pasture. They came to place which was unknown to them and which was uninhabited by man. The couple built a small hut near a “balete” tree. Sea birds called “Canaway” were frequenting the tree , so the couple decided to name the place Canawayon. Canawayon was the original name of the place. We can find this name on the map of the Bureau of Forestry, the Canawayon River. This place was sitio of Bagacay along the boundary of Burgos. Later on, it was renamed Rizal in honor of our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal.
