Origin of the Name Guindacpan
For many years, some inhabitants did not care to make a research about the origin of this island’s name. But it was told by an old man to the writer of the historical data and facts of this place the following incident. There was a murderer who came from Jetafe, and ranaway to Nasingin Island. The servants of the law ran after the murderer, who proceeded to the island of Calituban. The policemen failed to capture him but they continued their search. The murderer took refuge on a place where he was finally captured (hindakpan) by the policemen. That incident was very significant to the islanders and they felt excited after that incident. They always uttered the word “hindakpan”. And to make it more vivid and to make the word euphonious, they changed it to “Guindakpan”. This was how the name of the island came to be.
