Origin of the Name Cataban

This name comes from the word “Tab”, a kind of shell which are abundant when a group of evacuees from Talisay, Cebu arrive on this island. Due to the abundance of the shells called “Tabs”, the early settlers who were the great, great descendants of the Deiparine’s and the Caballeros, named the island “Cataban” meaning the place of numerous “tabs”.
